چکیده

Cervical cancer is second only to breast in terms of incidence; however, it the most lethal form among Thai women due asymptomatic nature its early stages. This work aimed examine cytotoxic and antiproliferative capacities Rhinacanthus nasutus (RN) Acanthus ebracteatus (AE) extracts against human cervical cells (HeLa). Plant leaves were used for ethyl acetate extraction. The antioxidant assays, HPLC analysis, a MTT assay, clonogenic assay real-time PCR conducted. Both RN AE displayed similar DPPH scavenging activity (3.97 4.05 mg TE/g DW) ferric reducing power (4.79 4.35 Fe2+/g DW). However, was richer total phenolic content than (13.30 10.84 GAE/g DW, respectively). Rutin, catechin, chlorogenic acid, cinnamic acid found AE, whilst with much higher RN. Higher cytotoxicity 91.73% HeLa (IC50 value 62.06 µg/mL). showed effect 25.24 µg/mL) (34.35 Genes (Bcl-2, Bax, MMP-2, MMP-9, caspase-3, p21, cyclin D1) proteins (cytochrome c, caspase-3 p21) linked apoptosis migration substantially more affected by To conclude, both hold promise as anticancer herbal plants cancer; cells. offers better alternative medicine or complementary remedy standard drug treatment.

New biological activity of Rhinacanthus nasutus extracts.

BACKGROUND The MeOH extracts from aerial part and roots of Rhinacanthus nasutus were investigated for new biological activities. MATERIALS AND METHODS The MeOH extract of the root was stepwise separated by organic solvents into n-hexane, EtOAc, n-BuOH and H(2)O layer fractions. Cytotoxic activity against human tumor and normal cells was determined by the MTT method. Nitric oxide (NO) was dete...

Effects of Acanthus ebracteatus Vahl on tumor angiogenesis and on tumor growth in nude mice implanted with cervical cancer

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the crude extract of Acanthus ebracteatus Vahl (AE) on tumor growth and angiogenesis by utilizing a tumor model in which nude mice were implanted with cervical cancer cells containing human papillomavirus 16 DNA (HPV-16 DNA). MATERIALS AND METHODS The growth-inhibitory effect of AE was investigated in four different cell types: CaSki...

Effects of Rhinacanthus nasutus kurz on colon carcinogenesis in mice.

Rhinacanthus nasutus Kurz, a Thai medicinal plant which possess antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects on human cancer cells, was examined for chemopreventive potential against colonic neoplasms induced by azoxymethane (AOM) combined with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in mice. Male ICR mice were given a single intraperitoneal administration of AOM (10 mg/kg body weight) followed by 2% DSS i...
